Double digits. Somehow our baby girl Mila is double digits! I remember blogging her first birthday, a Spring in Paris themed celebration and now here I am a decade later blogging this special milestone! Life continues to move quickly, but 10 years of being her mama is the greatest gift I’ve ever known! In the last decade, we’ve celebrated with many party themes all unique, but 10 was her favorite! A colorful pop-it birthday party with festive decorations and some of her favorite desserts! I couldn’t think of a better way for her to start this new special new birth year!
Pink is still holding strong as Mila’s favorite color. This year we colored her hair pink for her 10th birthday, and she wore some pretty pink nails for a photoshoot at home. The annual photo shoots are a birthday tradition that we’ve done every year since the girl’s first birthdays. Now we have over a decade of photos to look back on which I hope they enjoy more and more as they grow older!
We always say Mila’s been smiling since the day she was born and it’s true. She is the happiest and most tender hearted. Her joy from within shines outwards radiating on everyone she meets! I’m so grateful for more normalcy and that we could celebrate her just how she deserved this year!
Pop-it Party 10th Birthday
Double digits = double parties and we were fortunate to have our family in town to join us for party part one!
Pop-it birthday party details
As my girls have gotten older we’ve scaled back on over the top parties, incorporating more minimalist decorations and desserts, so we can maximize time spent with our family and friends! Family is what’s most important after all and being together under one roof for the first time in two years, made for the best 10th birthday for Mila!
Pop-it party decor
No pop-it party would be complete without at least one giant pop-it themed decoration! This DIY pop-it heart was easy to make, with hot glue, foam board, pastel paint, and balloons. I followed a simple template from Etsy and it came together in 2 hours, adding a fun element to a memorable 10th birthday celebration.
The pastel pop-it heart matched the color scheme of Mila’s party, in pink, purple and blue. We also incorporated balloon garland, a colorful banner and fresh peonies into the decor.
The cream 3 tier tables above are actually made of paper and fold away easily, with an acrylic stand on top. This was a great alternative to a dessert table. Our desserts held up well on top of these pillar stands and they tucked away nicely after the party.
One of the highlights from Mila’s 2nd party with friends was the rainbow pinata filled with fidgets and pop-its. This was a fun way for Mila and her friends to collect and then trade fidgets amongst each other after the broke it open.
Another fun activity that the girls took part in was a fidget scavenger hunt!
Pop-it themed desserts
Because I love to bake, we always have a delicious array of desserts on hand for parties all dairy free. For Mila’s first celebration with family, I made a pop-it themed cookie cake, cut in a letter “M” shape. The cookie cake is made with two layers of sugar cookie, strawberry frosting and strawberry compote. I topped the cookie cake with frosting, French macarons, white chocolate pop-its, edible flowers, sprinkles and glitter.
Pastel macarons
Additional desserts included French macarons filled with fresh raspberry, both gluten and dairy free. I made these with my go-to Italian Meringue Macaron recipe which you can find here.
Cupcakes
And chocolate cupcakes with raspberry frosting and pop-it royal icing decorations.
Pop it Mini Cake
Last but not least I made a mini cake for the birthday girl! I use leftover batter to make a 3″ 3 layer mini cake, filled with raspberry and decorated with dairy free frosting and royal icing pop it heart decorations.
This is an ongoing tradition in our family that we all look forward to each year!
Make a wish my dear!
Here’s to 10!
Since Mila was born on my late father’s birthday, it is always an extra special time to come together and celebrate with loved ones! This year was no different, filled with lots of joy and quality time catching up and celebrating our girl in the perfect pop-it party kind of way!
