Happy Wednesday! I hope you all have had a great start to April! It has been an eventful one for us! Last weekend marked the one year anniversary of our move into our new home. I still cannot believe how fast 12 months goes by! I realize in the past year, I have not shared a full photo of my favorite spot in our home. The kitchen. It’s light and white, and the heart of our home, featuring an open concept that’s perfect for sharing good eats and beverages for entertaining.
Our White Kitchen
What I love most about our kitchen is the custom hood designed by our cabinet-maker, the quartz countertops and the farmhouse sink. Although marble would’ve been my first choice, it can be difficult to maintain…so, to compromise, we chose a marble herringbone backsplash, balanced with avenza quartz countertops.
This particular quartz has the same grey-like veining as does carrara marble so it was an easy selection for us. The grey veining ties in well with the colors in our backsplash and our LG appliance suite in black stainless finish.
I recently started a collection of pink glassware, some new and some old, that I’ve designated for the top shelf of one of my display cabinets. I’d fill the entire cabinet with pink if I could, but I’m not sure my hubby would approve.
What are your thoughts on white kitchens? Are you a fan like me?
So far I’ve experienced only one con, and that is the upkeep. You really can see every little spot on the cabinets and counters, so I’m scrubbing often, but it’s completely worth it if you ask me.
Some say white kitchens are on their way out, but I will always believe in the appeal of this bright and airy selection. A white kitchen to me is a blank canvas and a joyful gathering space, reflecting light and cheer. Like the soft greys and accent cabinetry seen in the latest white kitchens, I believe they will change with the times, but are classic enough to never fully go out of style.
If there was one thing I could change about our kitchen, it would be the pendant lights above the island. They are off-centered and a bit too small for size. We bought an extra pendant light and were planning to move one and install the third, but I also like the idea of just keeping two and replacing the lights with something more grand.
Upcoming home projects for us.
- On the left of our kitchen is an open space with windows, that will eventually be our breakfast nook! We will be installing built-in bench seating and a table topped with avenza quartz. The base of the table will have built ins for storage and functionality so my girls can craft and stow away their projects. I’ll be sharing more on that soon!
- We’re also working on getting our yard completed this spring/summer. We’ll be planting a few of my favorite flower bushes and perhaps a fruit tree as well.
- Lastly, our play room. This is another project we hope to tackle later in 2018.
On Easter weekend, my hubby snapped a few photos of my girls and I. I figured I’d include them in today’s post cause it’s been a while since I’ve shared some. Ahh, why must they grow so fast?!
The brass-rimmed mirror in the photo above is new and I’m pleased with the way it balances our living space. I got two for a great deal at Target and will link below, along with all the other products that make up our kitchen.
Are you building a new home or remodeling right now? If so, I totally understand! It’s a long process and can be a challenge to pick every single detail, but getting that final occupancy and being able to move in makes all the challenges completely worth it. We’re 12 months in and could not be happier.
Thanks for reading! I have a few exciting projects in the pipeline that I can’t wait to share with you!
