Coquette Bow Themed Birthday Party
12 years ago I published my one year old’s Spring in Paris themed birthday party, and now here I am writing about her thirteenth Coquette Bow themed birthday! How time has moved so quickly is absolutely beyond me, but what a joy it has been to document my girls each year on their birthdays. The moments are indeed fleeting, but the published blogs serve as a connection, a trip down memory lane if you will, and a space dedicated to my dear loves. It’s safe to say I’ve been at this for a long time but I have loved every moment of it. And although the celebrations have shifted with the times, I look forward to continuing the tradition through future milestones to come.
Coquette Bow Themed Birthday Party
A feminine, pink coquette themed teen birthday party, complete with bow decorations, a vintage lambeth cake and matching cookies, coordinating florals and festivities.

Turning Thirteen
My baby girl is officially a teen! I adore so much about the young lady she is becoming, from her compassion and kindness, to her sense of humor and joy. This year has been challenging in terms of injury, surgery and recovery but as always, she faces each experience with tenacity, grace and her head held high. Traits that will serve her well as she continues to grow and I couldn’t be more proud of her.
Coquette Party Decorations
This year Mila decided on a Coquette Bow themed birthday celebration. The trending theme suits her love for pink and all things girly so well, but we had to put our own spin on it of course! We began the party prep and decorations referencing her birthday invite for inspiration.
As my girls have gotten older we’ve scaled back on some of the over the top party decorations, focusing on more of a minimal look, starting with a soft pink, white and bow balloon garland for the mantle.
One of my favorite decorations was the satin bow backdrop, a perfect spot for photos and so easy to create with sheer curtains, hand tied satin bows and glue dots for attaching.
The floating bow decorations were also easy to make with fishing line and hand tied satin bows. Simply string the fishing line through the bows vertically, to create the cute decor. Or you can purchase them pre-made, which I have linked below!
Party Flowers
Party decorations are not complete without fresh flowers! For this celebration, we incorporated blooms into the main table space using simply arranged, English roses, peonies, hydrangea and baby’s breath in coordinating shades of pink and white. My favorite place to find fresh blooms for parties is at Trader Joes.
Their seasonal options are vast and versatile, although I have noticed a climb in prices over the last year. A more affordable option to consider would be fresh flowers from a home garden.
Tableware
We ordered dessert and dinner plates lined with pink bows and a scalloped edge. The napkins matched the plates which tied in with the bowquette (coquette bow theme) perfectly!
Food & Beverage Menu
Mila had her heart set on pancakes for the menu so we decided on brunch, serving everything from French toast and pancakes, to sausage, eggs, fresh fruit and veg, croissant and lox, roasted potatoes, hummus and homemade biscuits made by my mom, a sparkling beverage bar and mimosas for the adults and more.
Brunch is an easy menu option for parties because much of the food prep can be done in advance, or only takes a few minutes from start to finish. While busy prepping I missed the opportunity to share photos of the main menu, but got plenty of the desserts!
Coquette Dessert Menu
Making custom desserts for my girl’s birthday parties has been one of my favorite tasks over the years, as well as a journey thinking back to when I first attempted to bake macarons on Mila’s first.
For this celebration and at the birthday girl’s request, I made a special mini cake, strawberry cupcakes, a vintage Lambeth Cake, custom sugar cookies and macarons, all of which were enjoyed during her two celebrations, one with friends and one with family.
Mini Jellycat Rainbow Birthday Cake
Every year for the girl’s birthdays I make them their very own mini birthday cake, typically matching the theme of the celebration. This sweet tradition is one of the highlights of their parties, and something I thoroughly enjoy. This year I made a rainbow jellycat birthday cake for Mila. It didn’t quite match the theme but was something she had requested, so I tried to make it happen! Unfortunately, upon completion, the cake tipped off of the cake stand and I had to attempt to redecorate it with minimal leftover frosting. The result was not the greatest, but at least it still tasted delicious!
Vintage Strawberry Cupcakes
Also on the menu were light and fluffy vanilla cupcakes in heart shapes, with strawberry frosting. They were filled with strawberry jam and decorated with vintage piping and sprinkles.
To achieve the heart shape, I inserted tinfoil into the top middle of the muffin cavities prior to baking. Then I used the flat and freeze method to smooth the piped frosting for easy decorating, resulting in a simple but adorable vintage decorated design.
Floral Macarons
Macarons are an essential addition to every one of our party menus. This has been a tradition for the last 12 years. I painted the shells with a floral design to match the coquette party theme and they were so elegant and fitting for the celebration. Find my basic Italian macaron shell recipe here.
Coquette Bow Decorated Sugar Cookies
I also made these custom sugar cookies decorated with pink and white royal icing to match the coquette theme. Featuring pink floral details, mini vintage cakes and bow icing transfers, with scalloped piped icing to round out the cookies. You can find my cookie and icing recipe here.
8″ Vintage inspired Lambeth Cake
The main dessert for Mila’s 13th was this 8″ vintage inspired chocolate cake. It was 3 layers and filled with raspberry jam and decorated with dairy free Swiss meringue buttercream.
Decorations included scalloped and piped frosting and little raspberry rosettes and piped leaves. Finished with pink satin bows.
One of my goals is to get better at decorating cakes, so this was a fun project for me and a highlight for Mila and our party guests.
