It’s the first weekend of spring and also happens to be National Cocktail Day, which calls for a new drink recipe here on the blog! The Sparkling French Gimlet is not only refreshing, but fitting for the new season with the botanical notes from the gin and floral notes from the Elderflower liqueur. When shaken, the combination of seasonal flavors come together for springtime taste and effervescence from the champagne, perfect for sipping on a Sunny evening, or for happy hour at home!
Sparkling French Gimlet
A twist on the classic Gimlet, mixed with Gin, Elderflower liqueur, lime juice and champagne. Cheers!
What is a Gimlet?
The Gimlet is a gin sour cocktail classically made with gin, lime and simple syrup. The drink has been traced back to the early 1900s, is known by bartenders and can quickly be mixed up and enjoyed at home.
The Gimlet requires just a few ingredients making it an easy cocktail for home bartenders.
Gimlet Variations
While the classic Gimlet is delicious as is, there are several variations to the cocktail! From vodka in place of gin and lemon in place of lime, to St. Germain Elderflower liqueur. The elderflower liqueur mixed with the Gimlet results in the French Gimlet, with lovely floral flavor. Because I enjoy sparkling cocktails, adding champagne to the French Gimlet was an easy choice, resulting in a wonderful and bubbly sip!
How it tastes
If you love the taste of Elderflower then this cocktail is for you! You’ll notice citrusy and fruity notes at first sip, along with subtle botanical and floral hints from the Gin and St Germain. The champagne topper helps mix and balance all the flavors together with a spring-like sparkling finish!
