DIY Marble Gift Tags

The marble trend is still going strong and that’s fine by me because I love the look of this timeless stone. Back in April I DIY’d marble easter eggs and they were so well received, experimenting with this design technique for Christmas was a must! This time I’m going classic, using only black nail polish, to create marble tags, that will most certainly add an elegant finish to your holiday gifts!

MARBLE GIFT TAGS

Most of the supplies you need to make these tags can be found at home. I prefer using polish over paint for this DIY, because it dries much quicker and after experimenting with both, I like the results and finished look of the marble better using the polish.

Here’s what you’ll need!

White paper tags (Michaels)

Nail Polish color of choice (I chose Essie licorice)

Small container of women’s or mens shaving cream (I found mine in the travel section)

Toothpicks

Parchment paper

Soft paper napkins

Lay your sheet of parchment paper on a solid surface.

Spray shaving cream into the shape of a 3×3 inch square, onto the parchment paper.

Open your nail polish of choice and drip polish in 3-4 different spots onto the square of shaving cream.

Quickly use your toothpick to swirl the droplets of polish, and connect them together to create a marbled look.

Then place your paper tag directly on your polish/marble design, face side down.

Hold it there for about 10-15 seconds, to give the polish time to transfer onto the paper. Then lift your gift tag off of the shaving cream design and dab off most of the excess shaving cream using a soft paper napkin.

The polish dries fast enough that it should not smudge when you wipe with the napkin, but if the tag is still wet, set it aside to dry (about 10 minutes) and then remove the excess shaving cream.

Repeat these steps for each marble gift tag, but be sure to replenish your shaving cream and polish so you get a clean look with each design.

I chose to print the marble on only the top half or the bottom half of my tags to give them each their own unique look. You can also experiment with a variety of polish colors if you wish.

And that’s it!

Once they dry, dress up your holiday gifts! The marble tags would look gorgeous hanging from a bottle of wine or champagne, or strung through a piece of white and gold twine and attached to your neatly wrapped presents.

Such a simple and festive project for the weekend! Give it a try! I’d love to hear what you think!
