Retro 11th Birthday Party
Our youngest daughter Mila turned eleven earlier this month, so we planned, prepped and celebrated a very special golden 11th birthday in a retro party theme! The party included plenty of homemade desserts, festive party decor and time with family and friends. A celebration that I thoroughly enjoyed pulling together, while Mila made the retro theme her own, with cute mushrooms and happy faces, which we incorporated into the bakes and tableware! It was truly one to remember and I hope the photos and links inspire you and your upcoming retro party plans!
Turning 11
Reflecting back, I realize I’ve been writing these birthday posts and creating these celebrations for my girls since they were babies and it blows my mind that Mila is now eleven. It’s true, the years are so short, but also the most rewarding. I’ve found that the tween years are especially rewarding watching Mila discover the activities and sports that she loves and pursue them. Always with a smile on her face and so much love in her heart!

Retro Birthday Party Theme
Retro kids parties are trendy at the moment, so it didn’t take long for Mila to decide on this theme! There were aspects about the theme that she didn’t love, so we made it special by incorporating mushroom, daisy and smiley face decor, which turned out to be the perfect customized party for her golden 11th celebration x2!

A retro party wouldn’t be complete without daisies! The daisy balloons from Amazon were a a fitting addition to the decor, coming in two different sizes, which we paired with the balloon garland in party colors, peach, pink gold and yellow.

The remaining party decorations included, a party banner reading” stay golden,” mushroom balloons, number 11 marquee lights and an acrylic handwritten birthday sign, all of which helped elevate and make our party space festive!

Party Blooms
I had the hardest time finding daisies at the market, so I used chamomile to make arrangements instead since it looks similar just smaller. I combined the chamomile with pink roses from Mother’s Day, and neutral mums in a bubble vase for a retro vibe. The colors of the blooms in white, pink and yellow tied in well with the party color scheme, resulting in easy and pretty diy flower arrangements.

Tableware
We ordered the cutest daisy plates and mushroom napkins on Amazon that totally set the tone for our celebration. They were the perfect, size, shape and color for the theme and our many bite sized desserts!

Party desserts
Each year I make a mini cake for my daughter’s birthdays, a tradition the girls look forward to most! The mini cake for Mila’s birthday was filled with citrus curd and decorated with lime frosting, gold dragees, and chamomile flowers. Topped with the absolute sweetest mushroom candles, perfect for the birthday girl!

All of the remaining desserts were bitesized for sharing with our guests.

I’ve been making themed birthday sugar cookies each year since my girls were babies. For this theme we decided on daisy, smiley face and number eleven cookies, decorated with royal icing. I used the donut and rectangle shaped cookie cutters from the shop to make them!

Macarons filled with passionfruit ganache and curd in soft pink and miniature cupcakes rounded out the desserts for our family celebration.

The cupcakes were bright and citrusy filled with lime curd and topped with lime frosting. They were an ideal size to enjoy all of the additional desserts, which didn’t last long!

Cupcake decorating
The following weekend, Mila had a separate party with her friends to celebrate turning 11! As you can see we incorporated daisy favor bags, and cupcake for a fun cupcake decorating tutorial.

They decorated mushroom and daisy cupcakes complete with lime curd for the daisy center, and a chocolate strawberry shell for the mushroom cap. They turned out to be such a hit, I’ll be sharing the cupcake recipe in a separate post up next!

Happy 11th golden birthday to our beautiful girl! Here she is making a wish for the very best new birth year ahead!
