It’s January 7th, Christmas decor down for the season and the new year feels official! The holidays are our favorite time of year, but the return of routine is welcome! For many, the new year is a transformational time to set resolutions and focus on goals and plans. For others, a time to recover and reset. This year I fall somewhere in the middle. Coming off one of the busiest years of my life, I’m giving myself grace and being patient while transitioning to 2023. This is a sure way to avoid burnout while setting the tone for a rewarding year ahead. A year centered less on busy, adventure and achievements and more on alignment, purpose and gratitude.
Year in Review
2022 was a year worth highlighting, amidst the bustle and busyness.
Travel
We traveled often, much of which was for our oldest daughter A. She plays soccer on a traveling state team and is also a runner. We visited San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Kelowna, San Diego, Disneyland, Lake Oswego, Dallas and College Station Texas, squeezing in family time when we could.
Marley was our travel companion, joining us on many of our trips and visiting California for the first time.
Summer
Our youngest M focused on dance and gymnastics with a recital to kick off Summer.
The season went by way faster than anticipated with very little down time, but somehow I found a way to keep our garden going, harvesting what felt like a never-ending supply of tomatoes by season’s end. – I can attribute much of this to the weather since warm temps lasted well into October.
Business
I baked, developed recipes and blogged each month, while centering focus on food and product photography/videography, working with brands that I’m truly grateful for!
We also found a location to grow our screen printing business and received our equipment from Poland after many delays.
Holiday Season
Fall flew by. In November our daughter A’s running team placed 1st in USATF Regionals!
Directly after Thanksgiving, we picked out our tree and decorated for Christmas.
We capped off our 2022 travels with one final trip to Texas for the USATF Junior Olympics. Our girl placed 30th out of 370 kids in the 4k.
I cannot tell you how much we were anticipating the holiday break after that final trip. Each day felt jam packed, but it was wonderful to breathe and enjoy the magic of the season without too much on our plates.
The week leading up to Christmas we woke up to a foot of snow, which couldn’t have been more timely.
We baked and decorated many cookies,
Enjoyed quality time with family and celebrated 26 years (my hubby and I have been together since our teens.)
Then finished out 2022 ringing in the New year in Vancouver BC.
In many ways I wish the season lasted longer, but do feel a sense of readiness for this fresh start!
The year ahead
Although I’m not sure what 2023 will bring, I do know it won’t be nearly as hectic as 2022. After covid, we were in a mindset of making up for lost time, which we did, but maybe a little too much. This year we’ll be leaving the fomo behind and shifting towards more of a relaxed, present, and aligned year with an uptick in time at home.
While I won’t be setting resolutions, I do have some business and personal plans in place. I’ve also selected a set of key focus words for 2023, to keep the plans in motion.
2023 Key Words
Alignment, creation, gratitude, growth, inspire, learn, self love, patience, peace, purpose, vibration, service, wellness. All of these words represent what I envision for 2023, evident in my personal life and the work you’ll see published this year.
Recipe Development
Look for updates to existing recipes on the blog. From more step by step photos, to streamlined ingredients. Look for new simplified and easy to follow recipes with continued dairy free/gluten free/vegan options. Plus more macarons!
Photography/Videography
Last year I worked on evolving PLD photography. Much of the work I did was behind the scenes, and not for social media. This will carry over into 2023 with more of an emphasis on a published portfolio. Expect experimentation with dark and varied scenes/backdrops and more videography and step by step videos.
Shop
I will continue to phase out some of the older products while bringing in new items that align with the current PLD brand. I’ll be migrating some of the Etsy products to the shop here, while designing some apparel (sweatshirts & hoodies) from our shop with custom screen printed designs.
Affirmations
I am a firm believer in affirmations and creating our realities through positive thoughts and encouragement. Reciting affirmations is a wonderful way to manifest dreams. What I love is how these affirmations keep us in a space of good while we work towards growth and changes.
Below are a few affirmations sure to keep the vibes high in 2023.
“I radiate love to those around me”
“Today is a gift and I accept it with joy and gratitude”
“I am exactly where I’m supposed to be in this moment”
“I am worthy of abundance, accomplishment and success”
“I have the ability to showcase the ordinary in an extraordinary way”
“I am eager to learn new skills that will make me an excellent _________“
Happy 2023 to you all! May it be filled with good energy, blessings and opportunity!
