PASSION FRUIT FRENCH 75
A spin on the classic French 75 made with fresh passion fruit, simple syrup, gin and sparkling wine/champagne. A fitting and elegant beverage for spring 2021!
The French 75 is an elegant effervescent cocktail, classically made with gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and champagne. The drink dates all the way back to the early 1900s and is perfect for celebratory occasions with the addition of champagne. The cocktail is also easily adaptable, pairing well with fruity and floral ingredients.
Although we love the bold lemon flavor in the original 75, passion fruit is similar on the palate with tropical flavors, resulting in the most delicious substitute.
When mixed together, you’ll taste tart, tangy and botanical notes all smoothed out with a splash of simple syrup and bubbles for a finishing touch!
Tastes of sunshine in every sip!
HOW TO MAKE A FRENCH 75 COCKTAIL
This cocktail is very easy and quick to make from start to finish, it’s also quite strong, so one to two is all you’ll need.
Simply fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Then pour in 2 oz of gin, nectar from 1-2 passion fruit, 2 oz simple syrup. Shake well. Evenly pour blended passionfruit and gin mixture into two glasses of choice. Balance with champagne and garnish with sliced passionfruit. Serves 2.
HOMEMADE SIMPLE SYRUP
Simple syrup is one of the easiest recipes to make from scratch, with just two ingredients. Sugar and water. We use a 4:1 ratio for our simple syrup so that it’s not overly thick or sweet. Use 1/4 cup raw sugar per cup of water and heat the mixture together in a pot until is begins to boil. Allow to boil for 1-2 minutes max, then remove from heat and cool. Simple syrup can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days.
ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS
Using delicious ingredients is essential in the overall French 75 cocktail experience. I highly recommend a quality middle shelf gin and champagne/sparkling wine. Pair it with fresh passion fruit if available! If not, you can use pressed or packaged passionfruit juice or nectar as an alternate, along with the homemade simple syrup.
This cocktail is classically served in champagne flutes, to maintain the quality of the bubbles. I personally love the look of the coupes but this is just a personal preference.
