The Journey to Posh
Today’s post is actually a long time in the making, but with all the transition happening with Posh as of late, it seems like the right time to share. If you aren’t yet familiar with my story and how Posh came to be, here’s a little background for you.
Nearly 8 years ago my husband and I were married on an August afternoon. Rewind time a bit further, and you’d find me planning every last detail of our wedding to be. My husband and I have actually been together since High School. We met in 1996 and have been in love ever since. He proposed when I was 22 and our engagement lasted a little over a year and a half. Call me crazy, but I loved planning our wedding. As stressful and overwhelming as it was, I would have done it over and over again if my hubby was crazy enough to let me. This was when I discovered my true passion for celebrations.
Fresh off our honeymoon, I returned to my corporate job, but began daydreaming about new possibilities. You see, I come from a creative background. My Mom is an artist, writer and hair stylist. My father a jazz musician, so creativity is part of my being. Not being able to express myself in some sort of creative fashion has a tendency to make me feel lost, which is why after nearly 8 years in banking, I made the decision to leave the field altogether. A leap of faith that was as exciting for me as it was nerve-wracking, but stepping away would ultimately allow me the opportunity to focus on the creative endeavors I had been daydreaming about since our wedding day.
Shortly after leaving my commercial banking position, I realized life had different plans for me. First off we discovered we were pregnant with our 1st child. This came as a surprise, but also a much welcomed blessing. Only 1 week later, my husband was severely injured in an industrial work accident. This was in Winter of 2008, right before Christmas. The accident landed him in a hospital and nursing home where he stayed for 16 weeks. During that process he underwent 16 surgical procedures and had to learn to walk again. I became his caregiver. A new job that I learned to do well, while preparing to be a mommy. I strongly believe that knowing we had the blessing of our 1st child to look forward to, helped carry us through the trying times. It gave us something positive to focus on, and I believe aided in my husband’s very long road to recovery.
From 2009-2011 I focused solely on the two greatest loves in my life. My husband and daughter. As my daughter grew older and my husband got healthier, I was able to revisit many of my creative business ideas and plans that I had set aside years before. Only now the timing seemed right. I began by creating Posh Little Designs the blog, which started as a creative outlet for me, where I could share some of my party related concepts and ideas. It has since evolved into so much more. Planning services, unique designs and a little Etsy shop too! The only thing missing, a logo.
I turned to the fabulous Erisha from A Thing Created to create it for me. She’s the incredibly talented artist who also designed my blog header.
Conceptually, I really wanted the design for Posh to reflect the process, and the evolution. What better place to source back to then my wedding day, where my passion for events and party planning emerged.
The cupcake is a literal nod to my love for celebrations while the orchid holds deeper meaning. On my wedding day I carried Phalaenopsis orchids in my bouquet. These are my absolute favorite flower because of their delicate beauty, elegance, and simple yet modern appeal. The tagline sweet. chic. stylish. while somewhat literal, expresses the Posh point of view, my area of expertise and brand mission. I feel the final design is a perfect fit for what PLD has become. A reflection of the journey from the beginning until now, in a timeless yet sophisticated fashion.
Although a long time in the making, I couldn’t feel happier with the direction things are going right now. I had another little girl 1 year ago this month. Saying they keep us busy is an understatement, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love my family. My husband and my girls find a way to inspire me every day and offer me continued love and support. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
All of these life experiences have helped me discover more about myself, my passions, strength and calling. I am left feeling fully ready for what the future holds for me and for PLD. The new logo design seems to be the perfect way to celebrate what’s in store.

Hoping everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend! Lets all take a moment to acknowledge the real meaning behind today and extend our gratitude to those who have fought for our freedom. Forever grateful!!
xoxo
