Soft and delicious baked apple cider donuts coated in cinnamon, sugar and apple cider mix topping. The easiest and most flavorful donut recipe for the fall season! Dairy free.

Units Scale

Baked Apple Cider Donuts:

  • 1/2 cup dairy free butter (regular butter can also be used)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 easpoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cup unbleached All Purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of alternative milk of choice (I use almond – regular milk will also work)
  • 1/2 cup apple cider (bottled or premade from powder mix)

Apple Cider Topping:

  • 1/3 cup dairy free butter (or regular butter)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet apple cider powder mix
  • 1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg

Apple Cider Donuts:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Grease donut baking cavities well with cooking spray (avocado oil is a good choice)
  3. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg in a separate mixing bowl until combined.
  4. In the bowl of a stand mixer mix together dairy free butter and sugar until light and fluffy, for about 3 minutes.
  5. Add in eggs and vanilla and mix until combined scraping along the bottom of the bowl.
  6. Pour a portion of the apple cider flour mixture into the egg and sugar, alternating in thirds with 1/2 cup apple cider and almond milk, until completely combined.
  7. Pour the mixed apple cider batter into a piping bag, fitted with round tip (tip optional).
  8. Pipe the batter into well greased donut cavities filling just below the edge.
  9. Tap the donut pan to evenly spread the batter.
  10. Bake in the oven for 5-6 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Repeat steps for remaining donut batter. You can also make mini donuts with any leftover batter you might have.
  12. Quickly remove baked donuts from pan and transfer to a cooling rack.

Apple Cider Topping:

  1. While the donuts are cooling, melt the dairy free butter in a saucepan.
  2. Once melted, pour granulated sugar, apple cider mix, cinnamon and nutmeg into a dish, until thoroughly combined.

Coating Instructions:

  1. Brush both sides of the cooled donuts with melted butter.
  2. Cover both sides of brushed donuts with apple cider topping, making sure they’re fully coated.
  3. Set aside and repeat each steps for all remaining donuts.
  4. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container until ready to enjoy!
  5. If not eating right away, the moisture from the butter will soften the apple cider donut topping, so give the donuts an additional coating of the mix just before serving.
  6. The donuts will keep for roughly 2-3 days but taste best when eaten the same to next day!

If you’ll be making mini apple cider donuts, cut the baking time down to roughly 4 minutes per batch.

The recipe is easily adaptable. Try with regular milk and butter. It can also be made with gluten free flour.
