Frozen Aperol Spritz
Cool off with a citrusy and refreshing Frozen Aperol Spritz, blended with frozen oranges, Aperol and Prosecco garnished with dehydrated orange slices.
The frozen Aperol Spritz is a quintessential spring and summer cocktail, but can really be enjoyed no matter the season as the flavors pair well with a variety of ingredients. The orange color gives off a seasonal feel making it a fitting drink for fall and winter also.
What is Aperol?
Aperol is an Italian botanical liqueur first created in 1919. On its own Aperol is a very sweet, botanical and slightly bitter but nicely balanced when paired other ingredients, such as Prosecco or mixed into cocktails of choice, such as the Aperol Spritz!
How it tastes
The flavor of Aperol can be described and sweet, herby and citrusy with bite, similar to that of orange peel. However, when paired with the frozen orange segments and Prosecco, it’s tart, frosty and mouthwatering with fresh orange in every sip! Pour a little prosecco over the frozen blend, for an effervescent finish!
How to make a Frozen Aperol Spritz
Aside from freezing the ingredients in advance, the frozen Aperol Spritz, is quite quick whip up! Here’s what you will need:
- Aperol
- 3 oranges peeled, and frozen
- Prosecco, Champagne or Sparkling wine of choice
- Fresh squeezed or store bought orange juice
- Additional oranges, slice and dried/dehydrated for garnish.
To make the frozen aperol spritz, peel the oranges, and place the orange segments onto a parchment lined tray. Freeze for 3-4 hours. Then pour 1 cup of Aperol evenly into an ice cube tray and freeze for 3-4 hours. While the ingredients are freezing, thinly slice an orange into rounds. Halve the orange rounds, then place in a dehydrator to dry for 3-4 hours. The oranges can also be dried in an oven at a low temperature around 150 degrees F. Remove from dehydrator/oven once dried.
When Aperol and orange segments are fully frozen, pour them into to a blender with 1/2 cup Prosecco and 1/4 cup fresh squeezed or store bought orange juice. Simply blend the ingredients until smooth, thick and frosty. Quickly pour the frozen aperol blend into two Champange glasses or coupes.
Top with a splash of Prosecco and dried orange slices for garnish. Serve immediately! The blended mix can also be made in advance and frozen for up to an hour prior to serving!
Cheers!
