Thanksgiving in Gold

There’s a class and sophistication that gold metallic hues exude and right now I’m in love. Rosy, brassy, bronze, and golden, you had me at hello. Can I now decorate everything in my house with you all? Well, that most likely will not happen, but the holiday season does give me an excuse to stock up on all things gold and I plan to take advantage of it! In fact, I’ve already began my search online, and came across so many pretties, that they quickly became the inspiration for today’s post.

Since Thanksgiving is coming up in 1 week, the timing for gold decor couldn’t be better! If you plan on hosting a Turkey (or alternative) holiday dinner for your guests, here’s how you can let gold be your guide.

Thanksgiving in Gold

Whether an ice-bucket, place card holders, or a collection of affordable flatware, there are so many ways you can celebrate your Thanksgiving using these elegant hues.

Garland is one of the easiest ways to add style to a dinner party, and as you can see, even small accents like wave napkin rings above, will stand out beautifully against simple table settings, adding the wow factor.

Pair fall prints like the the Antler Appetizer Plates above, with your favorite snacks and treats for a fun conversation piece and trendy touch.

And just because gold looks expensive, doesn’t mean that it has to be. The gold chevron paper straws are currently available in my Etsy store for just $3.85 per pack. A quick way to dress up your holiday cocktails and add the glam factor. Budget friendly, festive and always posh!

If you could pick one item from above for your Thanksgiving table, what would it be?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Black + White Halloween

Halloween is one week away, can you believe it? Do you have anything fabulous planned? This holiday is reserved for my girls, so no major party plans on my end. Instead I’ll be spending my evening trekking the streets with Rapunzel and the cutest kitty cat you ever did see! But, if you’re in need of inspiration for a last-minute Halloween party you’ve come to the right place!

Right now I just happen to be obsessed B&W so it felt right to create a board revolving around both. Especially for Halloween! The black seen throughout offers some chic with a bit of a spooky edge that you look for with this type of holiday, while the white adds a touch of clean and modern. When paired together they are nothing short of spooktacular!

Not only is black and white trendy at the moment, but it’s also timeless, meaning you could use this color scheme time and time again and never go wrong. Especially in the months of Fall and Winter, when the weather gets cold.

If you’re still looking for ideas, I’ve put together some useful tips that will make throwing your next party a breeze!

Happy Halloween!

Posh Party Tips

Consider an upscale evening cocktail party with your closest friends.

Send out your invites via email, or you can even hand deliver.

Choose a color scheme of black and white, the most sought after shades of the fall season.

Decorate simply but with statement making fabric for table linens.

I love the look of an all white pumpkin. If you can’t find them locally you can always break out the paint, like I did here!

One of the things I’m currently obsessing over is cake stand. They are so pretty to look at! Mix and match, or stack atop each other for a gorgeous dessert display.

Pour. Champagne and sparkling wine is one of my favorite ways to kick off a party. Line the rims in black and white sanding sugar for a touch of sweet and serve in memorable stemware as seen above. The Crystal Head Vodka could be used as a centerpiece on its own. Such a stunning bottle which I’m sure would also make a mean martini (sorry for the bad pun.) And don’t forget the paper straws! A party isn’t complete these days without them! The specific ones seen above can be found in my Etsy shop.

Sweets. If you’re short on time, dress up bakery bought cupcakes with a simple topper and an additional cupcake liner for a layered look. You can really serve anything black and white to tie in your theme, from dipped oreos, and black and white macarons, to licorice wheels and gumdrops..oh my!

There’s more coming up this week so do check back soon.

Think Pink

Fall is officially upon us and I have all things pink on the brain. Not only because it’s a rather trendy color for the season but also because the color pink is the designated hue for Breast Cancer Awareness, and October just happens to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Organizations from all across the US will be participating in the fight against breast cancer by going pink and I’m honored to be participating as well!

This year, I’ve been invited to be one of the vendors at a local Mammogram Party in my hometown. The event will offer mammograms by donation to women without a prior appointment, while also raising awareness about the disease, and helping in the fight for a cure.

I’ll be putting together a display of breast cancer awareness baking and party supplies for sale locally and also in limited quantities in my Etsy shop for the month of October. Not only can we bake for a cure, but we can also celebrate the strength and courage of all women and families affected, while also supporting a great cause.

With the event just a few weeks away, and breast cancer awareness such a huge part the coming month, I’ve put together a board that I can draw from to style and design my vendor space. I hope to also provide inspiration to everyone affected by the disease.

Think Pink! - Breast Cancer Awareness Inspiration by PLD

For the vendor event, I’ll be working with a color scheme of pink and gold/silver. The setup will be all white and clean with a few small floral arrangements and pops of pink in a variety of shades. I’ll be carrying everything from cookie cutters, to paper straws, baking cups, sprinkles and more. As I work on projects for the event, I’ll be sure to share them here, so you can see how it all comes together!

Visit my Etsy shop for a look at the Breast Cancer Awareness Products currently in Stock. I’ll have more to sell in the coming weeks!

There are so many ways to help raise awareness and fight for the cure! For more information and details on how you can do so, visit the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

A portion of all proceeds from breast cancer related products sold by Posh Little Designs will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Think Pink. Raise Awareness. Fight for a Cure.

Celebrate – S is for Strawberry

If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, I’m sure you’re aware that my daughter is getting ready to turn 4 in just a few weeks! Each year as her birthday approaches we allow her to choose a party theme and this year she chose one of her favorites, Strawberry Shortcake. I’ve already started on the planning process and have many ideas that I’ll be incorporating to make her celebration special and memorable.

When I think of strawberry shortcake, the first things that comes to mind for me is the fruit itself, and when I think of strawberries, I’m reminded of everything we love about summer in the pacific northwest. The local berry stands that line the country roads, lazy afternoons in the backyard, fresh lemonade, the farmers market and an array of delicious fresh and local products.

One of our favorite things to do during summer is to have picnics. We love to lounge in the sun and enjoy our surroundings, while also having a bite to eat. In turn this inspired me to create a picnic style strawberry shortcake party for my daughter! A less literal approach, but I still plan to tie in many strawberry shortcake character details.

From gingham to floral prints, polka-dots and doilies, a super girly celebration is sure to emerge, as sweet as the berry itself.

Below is the invitation I hand created in photoshop. We just mailed them off to our lovely guests this week.

Spring In Paris – Inspiration and Invitations

My baby girl will be 1 years old in just a few week’s time and I can barely believe it! The past 12 months have gone by in a flash. She was born on Mother’s Day weekend last year and shares the same birthday as my late Father. Such a special gift. Each day that passes we’re reminded of the way she’s blessed our lives. We couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments or more in awe of her heart, her love and her smile. There are so many moments worth celebrating and although bittersweet, we are looking forward to ringing in her special day with our closest friends and family.

The theme for her 1st b-day is inspired by a collection of Paris cookie cutters that I carry in my Etsy shop. When I first got them in stock, I fell in love. But that’s not where my obsession with Paris began. I have been enamored with the city and France in general for quite a long time. So romantic, so chic, the land of macarons, Coco Chanel, French decor and just about everything else I consider to be posh. Every girl’s dream!!! Isn’t it?! And since my baby girl is a little too young to choose her birthday theme, I’m taking advantage of what will most likely be the only year I get to choose for her.

Now for the planning. My goal is to keep it super young and sweet just like her, starting with the color scheme. Since she was born in Spring, I’m planning to tie in the season by using an abundance of fresh flowers; peonies, roses and hydrangea. I’ll also be incorporating the trendy pastel accent hues of mint and blush as well as many French details and decor, such as the Eiffel Tower shown below. As you can see, the overall feel to be light, airy, and super girly-chic with lots of signature touches including handmade invitations, props, prints and labels.

Adding this signature touch is important to me because it’s what makes a celebration memorable, unique and posh.

1st Birthday Invite - Spring in Paris

Above is a sample look at some of the designs and prints I’ve been working on as well as the items that have inspired them. From the “I love Paris” imagery, to the white Eiffel Tower I purchased at Target, the mint pastel balloons, ivory striped straws and last but not least a box of macarons from Ladureé. I need to get my hands on some of those…asap!!

Paris Invite - Spring

And here’s a closer look at the invitation that was sent to our special guests.

I’ve had so much Paris on the brain lately, a visit to the city of love is definitely on our list of to-dos, however it will have to wait until the girls are a bit older and more accustomed to long travel. Until then I’ll just have to pretend like I’m already there…this seems like the perfect start and the perfect way to celebrate ma chéri.

p.s. The 12 month photo seen in the invitation is from one of the 1st birthday photo-shoots I did with my baby girl. Stay tuned for a closer look at the images, they’ll be up on the blog next!

Thanks as always for reading! Check back in soon!

Pantone for St. Patty’s Day

As most of you know, Pantone has chosen Emerald as the color to represent the year of 2013. A vibrant hue with elegant air that reminds me of nature and the upcoming arrival of Spring. Oh how I love that this shade transforms so easily into soft mint, one of the color trends seen in fashions, weddings and parties the past several months. Hello warmer weather, longer days and blooming flowers. Are you as excited for Spring as I am? Well in the meantime feel free to go gaga for green and channel your happy as St. Patrick’s Day approaches. Not only will you be on trend, but perhaps you can avoid being pinched too…(wondering if people really do that anymore?!)

Here’s how you can celebrate green in all it’s glory for your St. Patty’s Day bash.

Emerald & Mint

Think emerald. Think mint. Choose chevron patterns. Modern garland & poms. Shamrock touches. Mason jar centerpieces. Serve San Pel. and festive cake. Give Andes mints (my all time favorite.)

1 Chevron cake 2 Garland 3 Shamrock paper punch 4 Tissue poms 5 San pellegrino 6 Andes Mints 7 Tinted Mason Jars

posh little tip: san pellegrino bottles easily transform into fabulously chic vases for single stem floral arrangements.

Fun tidbit about me: I happen to have a personal connection to the lovely color of green. Both my girls have birthstones in this hue (Peridot and Emerald,) so my appreciation for the color extends far beyond the trend.

Although Spring is near, they days in the Pacific NW are still quite chilly. Stay tuned for my next St. Patty’s post featuring a simple recipe that will keep you nice and cozy until the weather warms up!

Red Carpet Party Palettes

This past Sunday I spent the afternoon watching The Oscars red carpet live. If you tuned in, how did you feel about what they wore? I was pleasantly surprised at how many looks I loved!! Some of my top favorites: Naomi Watts, Halle Berry & Zoe Saldana.

Of the several looks, I personally nominated the two for best dressed that left me day dreaming. But since I don’t have a place fancy enough to wear one of these star-studded looks, I’ve done something with each that’s a little more practical and perfectly posh too! This posh that I speak of is in the form of party inspiration. Because how amazing would it be to host a celebration inspired by your favorite red carpet look?!

Below you will see how fashion has personally inspired my creative point of view. Two of my favorite looks transformed into the perfect party palettes.

First up the beautiful Stacy Keibler. She looked incredibly dazzling in this Naeem Khan embellished gown for Fall 2013. The design and intricate detailing left me speechless as did her overall styling. A true stunner in gun-metal glam. I am literally obsessed.

Platinum and Black - party inspiration

How I was inspired

I chose a color scheme of black, platinum and gun metal to match fabric in the gown. The shape of the chandelier and serving tray reminding me of the overall design and structure of the dress, with disco dust and edible confetti glitter to tie in the embellished detail. This party inspiration would be ideal for any celebration with a glamorous theme. Bachelorette parties, engagement parties or birthdays come to mind.

1 Chandelier 2 Disco Dust Black 3 Edible Confetti 4 Balloons 5 Disco Dust Platinum 6 Baroque Serving Tray 7 Platinum Martini Glass 8 Platinum Gum balls 9 Black Gum balls 10 Platinum cupcake wrappers

The second beauty I nominated for best dressed was Kerri Washington in Miu Miu. This gown in coral with the diamond studded bust truly sang to me and reminded me that the warmth of the sun is near.  There’s something so bright and welcoming about this cheerful hue that reminds me of Spring! I also love that Kerri added an unexpected pop of color to her look with the red shoe and bag. A true vision!!

Coral & Gold party inspiration

How I was inspired

I chose a color scheme of coral and gold to match the look of the gown, with added touches of red to tie in Kerri’s shoes and handbag. Gold details in the cake, bunting and edible jewels were a necessity to reference the embroidered bust, as was a drink recipe as refreshing as her overall look. This inspiration would be ideal for a Spring welcoming celebration. Perhaps a baby shower, bridal shower, tea party or birthday.
