Happy Tuesday! There’s 9 inches of snow on the ground and we’re home for the 2nd day in a row. In some ways that’s a good thing because we need all the extra time we can get, to start packing for our move.
After 18+ months of home building, it feels really good to say the words packing and move. We’ve gone 6+ months beyond our completion date, and the past few have left me questioning everything. But the greatest reward is now just days away and somehow our long and very exhausting home building journey, feels completely worth it. Especially when walking in and seeing how all of our design finishes have come together.
Choosing home finishes on our own was a challenging process. I’m definitely no expert, though I’ve always loved interior design. I admit I was a bit nervous about choosing so many neutral and white design details. Yet I’ve learned that neutrals can flow beautifully together when chosen in a variety of shapes and textures.
Our tile flooring is 12×12 transitional, which has hints of brown, grey and cream throughout. It’s a nice neutral tile and pairs well with almost anything, like our countertops in white avenza quartz. The countertops are similar to Carrara marble, but much easier to upkeep.
The hexagon and marble square tile you see above, has been installed into our master bath and on our fireplace as well.
For our kitchen backsplash we went with marble herringbone mosaic which my absolute favorite! It’s a timeless and chic pattern with natural hints of grey and creams so it accents our tile flooring and countertops nicely. We chose a white farmhouse sink from Kohler because I’ve always dreamed of having one, and sleek chrome for our plumbing fixtures (also from Kohler) to tie everything together. All the plumbing work was done by my hubby.
Here’s a sneak peek.
I can’t tell you how exciting, yet tough it is to walk into our newly completed kitchen and then have to leave. I long for the days of waking up and cooking there, coming together with family and friends and celebrating in our new space.
Our biggest hold up at this point is railings. By code, we must have all of our railings in before our final inspection. So here we sit and wait. This is week 4 without railings, but fortunately most of them arrived yesterday, and should be installed later this week.
Thanks for reading! I’ll be sharing many more home details once we’re finally moved in.
Check back for a few V-day posts later this week!
